An industrial piercing (North America), also known as a scaffold piercing (UK/Ireland) or construction piercing, is any ear piercing that consists of two pierced holes connected with a single piece of jewelry.

These piercings typically consist of a double perforation of the upper ear cartilage specifically. This piercing is performed using special needles or rods. Rings or pins are usually used to match the holes. Together it looks like a large accessory that crosses the upper part of the ear shell.

This type of piercing was named for its similarity to the industrial style. The jewelry in the ear is visually reminiscent of the metal structures inherent in industrial aesthetics.

To create industrial, you need to go through the following steps:

• Pre-preparation. Before you start the piercing procedure, it is important to tune physically and mentally. This will help to reduce the perception of pain, and most importantly - to avoid dizziness or fainting during the procedure. Make sure you are healthy, have a good meal and drink enough water.
• Disinfection. Agreeing to all the details, the master thoroughly washes his/her hands and puts on clean disposable gloves. It cleanses the punctured area as well as the workspace and tool.
• Marking. The next step is to determine the ideal location for your industrial piercing. For convenience, the masters indicate two points where the decoration will be inserted, using a felt-tip pen or marker. Before creating punctures, the client evaluates the location and coordinates it. This step requires a high precision of the master.
• Puncture is the actual injection of needle into the ear cartilage. Although the tolerance to pain varies from one person to another, most people describe it as an acute tingling sensation that lasts for several seconds. Some compare this to a pinprick or bee sting.
• Embellishment. After the needle passes through the cartilage, the piercer quickly inserts the decoration into both holes using clean tools. You may feel a certain pressure at this stage, but it also should not last long.

Because industrial cartilage involves two or more piercing, it can take much longer to heal than soft tissue piercing.

The average recovery time is 6 to 12 months.

Proper and regular aftercare is necessary to prevent infection and promote rapid healing. To do this, several important recommendations should be followed:

• Wash your hands thoroughly with soap before touching your new piercing. This will help prevent infections and harmful bacteria from getting into the damaged areas of the ear.
• Clean the industrial piercing twice a day. Use chlorhexidine to do this. Soak a cotton pad in solution and gently wipe all sides of the piercing.
• Touch the jewelry with your hands only in moments of aftercare.
• Until the puncture heals completely, avoid swimming pools and hot baths. This will help prevent infection.
• Try to sleep on another ear, avoiding contact piercing with a pillow. It is also important to change the bed linen every three to four days.
  
  

• Proper nutrition and healthy lifestyles contribute to faster healing.
• Drink enough water and try to feel your condition.
• Keep your jewelry on for the first few months, even if the piercing looks healed. Otherwise, it may cause tissue damage and slow healing as a result.
• Avoid friction decorations on clothes, bed or other items.
• In case of symptoms of infection, consult a doctor.
• Do not turn and do not move the jewelry to prevent irritation and trauma of the tissues of the ear.
